Portrait Miniature by Raphaelle Peale
Raphaelle Peale (American, 1774-1825). A portrait miniature of a young man in watercolor on ivory. Housed in a gilt copper case; 2.5 x 2 in. (sight).
This is purported to be a portrait of Governor David Hall (1752-1817) of Delaware, who also served as a regiment leader during the American Revolution and later served as a Supreme Court Justice. The reverse of the case features an oval window showing the initials DH against a background of woven hair.
