.58 caliber, 40" barrel. The barrel has the standard folding leaf sight, and is marked with a VP over an eagle head (lightly visible) and Steel at the breech. The lock is marked L. G. & Y. / Windsor - VT., with a U.S. under an eagle motif, and dated 1862 at the rear. The left of the stock has an inspector's cartouche. Walnut stock with tulip headed ramrod, three barrel bands, leather sling and U.S. marked buttplate. The right side of the stock has the initials H.A.S. carved into it.
The barrel and lock are finished bright, with some light peppering and oxidization at the breech. The eagle motif is obscured from the bolster. The stock has a micro-crack behind the lock, but is in good overall condition. The bore and action are good.
