.56-56 caliber, 22" round barrel, #37474 with six land and grooves, serial number 37474. Marked on top of receiver Spencer Repeating/Rifle Co, Boston Mass/Pat'd March 6, 1860 in 3 lines. Walnut stock and forearm with faint cartouches. A solid example of a Civil War issued and used Spencer carbine without post-war modifications.
Good to very good. Metal with a dull pewter patina and scattered oxidized staining and pinpricking. Receiver darker gray with light pitting. Mechanically functional, good bore, correct original magazine tube and rear sight. Wood with dents and dings, lightly sanded, 2 faint cartouches present at rear of sling bar, 1 1/2" crack at rear of forend on reverse.
