Tibetan Painted Silk Thangka with Warrior Scene
Tibetan, 18th century. A silk Thangka with a central gilt painted scene of a warrior figure riding a horse, possibly depicting King Gesar of Ling. Central image surrounded by eight Buddhas seated on lotus thrones, flanked by the eight auspicious Buddhist symbols on each side, with blue embellishments forming halos around the Buddhas' heads. The scene further bordered by gilt dragon motifs, all against a painted black ground and all within a newer silk border; 40.75 x 31.25 in. (full size, including newer silk border).
Some faded areas to border. Paint loss and thinning to center.
