.54 caliber, 8.5" smoothbore round barrel. The barrel is stamped U.S. / NWP / P. A small H. is stamped on the left of the breech, and is also present on the trigger guard. The lock is marked U.S. / R. Johnson / Middn Conn. and is dated 1841. The left side of the walnut stock bears two inspector's cartouches, a JH and a WAT. With button headed ramrod on a swivel. All metal parts are finished bright. The NWP markings on the barrel indicate that this was possibly for Naval use, however an anchor marking is not present.
All metal parts have the original bright and shiny finish, with only the slightest of blemishes on the lock and buttcap/strap. The Stock is in excellent condition. The top jaw of the lock is missing. The bore and action are excellent.
