American Rococo Mahogany Full Tester Bed, mid 19th century, of the type crafted for the antebellum New Orleans market, the projecting cyma-molded cornice on tapered octagonal column posts supporting a paneled headboard with a scroll and shell carved top rail, the posts joined by serpentine rails with central applied carving, to a like footboard, the tester with a silk upholstered panel, H.- 113 in., Int. W.- 55 in., Int. D.- 72 in.
Condition consistent with age and use. Scattered scratches, scuffs, and dents are noted throughout. Key present. An approximate 1 cm hole is seen in the right door. A newer shelf support is noted on the right side of the interior. Pins on the left door are protruding slightly. Three pins are lacking from the right door and the top hinge is slightly loose. The belt of drawers is lacking the central handle and key. A horizontal crack is observed in the brass escutcheon on the right door. The lower section of the escutcheon on the left door is lacking. An approximate 8 inch horizontal crack is seen in the right door. A cluster of deep scratches is observed in the middle of the left door, measuring approximately 4 inches. A 12 inch scratch is seen on the right side with several approximate 1 inch gouges nearby. Dents are observed in the brass feet, especially the front left example. Several pea-size chips are noted in the top right. A nice example.
