Louis Philippe Carved Walnut Marble Top Commode, 19th c., the reeded edge highly figured black marble over a cavetto frieze drawer and three deep drawers, on a plinth base with a "secret" drawer, on ogee block feet, H.- 37 1/2 in., W.- 49 in., D.- 21 in.
Condition consistent with age and use. An approximate 1 ½ inch chip is seen in the back right corner of the marble. Scattered scratches are observed throughout the marble, including two approximate 12 inch shallow scratches. A 2 inch circle of brown residue is observed near the back edge. An approximate 3 inch raised area is seen near the right. A key is present. An 1/8 inch gap is noted between the molding and the base. Moderate wear and beetle holes are seen in the front feet. An approximate 1 inch chip is noted near the bottom. Two vertical cracks are observed in the left and right sides. Two 1 cm gouges are noted in the drawers. Two ½ inch chips are seen below the marble. A slightly raised texture and darker discoloration is seen intermittently throughout the finish, especially above the first drawer. Light wear is seen to the top three drawers. A lovely piece.
