Louis Philippe Carved Walnut Marble Top Commode, c. 1850, the highly figured reeded edge rounded corner black marble over a cavetto frieze drawer above three setback drawers, on a plinth base on sloping block feet, H.- 38 1/4 in., W.- 48 3/4 in., D.- 21 in.
Condition consistent with age and use. Scattered light scratches are noted throughout the marble. A pea-size chip is seen on the front edge. Moderate wear is observed to the front right corner. Three approximate 8 inch vertical cracks are noted on the left side with smaller hairline cracks nearby. Four approximate 8 inch vertical cracks and one along the length of the side are noted on the right. Moderate wear is seen on the feet. Scattered pea-size chips are noted around the drawers. An approximate ½ inch dent is seen on the left side. An approximate 10 inch rectangular crack is noted in the right side of the middle drawer. Brown streaks are seen across the middle drawer. An approximate 1 cm chip is seen in the wood just below the marble. An approximate 10 inch crack is noted on the left corner below the marble. A lovely piece.
