Set of Eight French Henri II Carved Walnut Dining Chairs, c. 1880, the spindled crest over a pierced back and a lower spindled gallery above caned seats, on turned tapered legs joined by a like H-form stretcher, H.- 36 1/2 in., W.- 17 3/4 in., D.- 19 1/2 in.
Condition consistent with age and use. Two seats detached from frames. Six finials lacking from the tops of the chairs. Light wear, scratches and dents throughout, but especially the tops of the backs. An approximate 8 inch depression with smaller hole in the caning of one seat. A shallower depression of the same size in another example. A 1 inch hole in the seat of another piece. Holes from wood beetle exposure throughout. Moderate to heavy wear to the wood around the caning. A charming set.
