Set of Six French Henri II Style Carved Beech Dining Chairs, c. 1900, the crest rails over rectangular embossed leather backs, above a spindled gallery over square seats on turned tapered fluted legs with toupie feet joined by H-form stretchers, H.- 38 in., W.- 17 in., D.- 16 in.
Condition consistent with age and use. A pea-size chip is noted on the back of one spindle. Another spindle is lacking. Two approximate 1 cm areas of leather are lacking from the back of two examples. Old wood beetle damage is noted on several chairs, including moderate damage to the side and top scrolling decoration of one piece. Cracks are seen in the leather back of one chair, the largest approximately 5 inches long. Two approximate 3 inch cracks are seen in the leather of two other chairs. Moderate wear is seen intermittently throughout the upholstery. A nice set.
