Wendo (1982-, New Orleans), "Untitled" from the WAVES Series, 2017, CMYK prints, editions 10, 11, and 12 of 12, unsigned, presented in black contamporary frames, H.- 10 5/8 in., W.- 10 5/8 in., Framed H.- 12 1/4 in., W.- 12 1/4 in., NOTE: Wendo Brunious received his MFA from the University of New Orleans in 2014. In 2015, Wendo and two other artists began painting murals in New Orleans. As a solo artist, Wendo has continued to participate in both gallery and juried exhibitions in and around New Orleans. He is the recipient of the William Helis Foundation Art Prize for Best in Show in the 2020 Louisiana Contemporary exhibition at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art. Wendo currently lives and works in New Orleans. This print series was included in Wendo's first solo exhibition at Boyd Satellite Gallery in March 2017. The show itself focused on collisions of imagery, references and themes related to certain people, places and ideas that were close to the artist at the time. The prints themselves were a layering of images that were included in the paintings of the exhibition but printed in an almost CMYK tone. The translucency of the inks allowed the imagery to multiply different tones as the colors crossed one another, fighting for the same surface space. While the prints have no particular individual theme, they all share in the same process as well as their own fight for attention from the viewer. Portions of this sale will be donated to Cafe Reconcile 501(c)(3).
