Information provided by the Artist: Adam Vermeire is an artist based in Sacramento. He is an Adjunct Professor at Sacramento City College in the Art Department. Vermeire received a BFA from the University of Colorado, a second BFA from San Francisco Art Institute, and his MFA from Mills College in Oakland, California. This work explores escapism within the virtual landscapes of violent video games and is part of an ongoing investigation into the relationship between violence and beauty in virtual worlds. Within these spaces, I assume the role of a pacifist, choosing to navigate a world shaped by aggression without participating in it. This position is significant, as it suggests a form of resistance and a search for meaning within a setting typically dominated by conflict. By prioritizing the pursuit of beauty over violence, the work opens up expansive possibilities for exploration and reflection.
