Information provided by the Artist: My name is Annie Murphy-Robinson, and I live in Carmichael, CA, near my birthplace of Sacramento. I have also lived in Montana, Louisiana, and Germany. My art is deeply personal, inspired by my life, children (quasi self-portraits), and nostalgic objects. It serves as a means of expressing beauty and processing trauma from both childhood and adulthood. Animals, to which I feel a strong connection, often appear in my work. I primarily work in charcoal, using a unique sanding technique on heavy printmaking paper—an intensive yet therapeutic process. I hold a BFA in studio arts (painting) from the University of Southwestern Louisiana and an MA in studio arts from California State University, Sacramento. For 20 years, I have taught high school art and led workshops on my technique. My work has been exhibited worldwide, collected by institutions like MEAM Barcelona and the ARC. Major awards include the PSOA Draper Grand Prize (2021).
