Information provided by the Artist: Marsha Godoy-Schindler, born in Los Angeles from parents that immigrated from Mexico, is a Sacramento ceramicist, installation artist, painter and teacher whose work is hallmarked by the underpinnings of her background as a marine biologist. Her narrative installations explore environmental changes and the response and adaptation of nature to those circumstances. Godoy-Schindler says, “Science and Art work in very similar ways. Hand-building with clay, I cannot help but see a reflection of our global issues.” Focusing on real and imaginary narratives, her transformative ceramic tree-spirits seem to come to life. Godoy-Schindler has worked on various high-level projects throughout her career and participated in public art commissions. She started and ran a business, clayARTstudio814, which supports studio artists and provides ceramic classes. Professorships with Art Institute, Los Rios Community College, and Art Instructor for Crocker Art Museum are venues where she has taught.
