Information provided by the Artist: Investigating the ordinary is the pervasive theme in my work. I use accessible images to represent situations and states of mind. In using common place objects in unexpected arrangements I am creating a feeling and an experience in the moment. It might be a sense of unease. It can represent observation, an uncomfortable situation, taking on a challenge or facing fears. In my choice of ordinary objects, I am expressing personal meanings and my interest in shared stories as we navigate through life. My sculpture "Wind and Resistance" symbolizes my struggles through a difficult year and a hopeful feeling that things will be okay. The details are mine but story is everyone’s. My process involves building up coils and slabs out of clay and shaping the work by hand. I use underglazes, fire and add more washes of glaze to emphasize texture.
