Antique 1844 Signature Quilt from NJ in a Feathered Star pattern using Turkey Red print fabrics. It measures 93 x 113 inches. It is comprised of 32 blocks, 14.5 x 14.5 inches, set on point and staggered, 4 by 5, with 1.5 inch red print sashing and border, and partial block setting triangles. It is hand pieced and hand quilted. There is thin cotton batting and off white cotton reverse. The edge is finished with an applied by hand twill tape binding. The quilt has hand inked signatures or name inscriptions in just about every circle or partial circle in the quilt. The date April 15, 1844 with locations indicated as Elizabeth, Union, Plainfield, and New Brunswick are noted. Names include King, Dickerson, Clinton, Watson, Pearson, Vail, Overton, VanFleet, Coorkling, Voorhees and more. There are many sentiments inked as well. It is in fair condition with overall toning, spots, and some of the Turkey red prints are popping or disintegrating. The quilt comes with some provenance with family history and ancestry research.
