GRAVES, ROBERT
An extensive and rather comprehensive collection of the published work of Robert Graves, largely in first editions. The collection comprises approximately 20 signed limited editions, including Poems 1914-1927, one of 115 copies, in the scarce dust jacket; Poems 1929, one of 225 copies; The Feather Bed, one of 250 signed copies issued by The Hogarth Press; and others similar. A group of approximately 25 unsigned works of poetry include the author's first book Over the Brazier, offered with a copy of the third edition, 1920, fine in jacket; Country Sentiment, 1920, in dust jacket; Whipperginny, 1923, in dust jacket; Mockbeggar Hall, Hogarth Press, 1924; and a variety of others, three of which are inscribed by Graves. Included is a copy of the rare first issue of the autobiography Good-bye to all that, 1929, with the Sassoon poem present, in the jacket; Graves's writings of Lawrence include a first edition of Lawrence and the Arabs, 1927, in jacket and the boxed set T.E. Lawrence to his Biographers, 1938, signed by Graves and Liddell Hart. Graves's fictional writings here include the first editions of I, Claudius; Claudius the God; the two Sergeant Lamb books; The Real David Copperfield; Antigua Penny Puce, etc. In addition, there are approximately seventy other works by or edited by Graves, including seven proof copies.
