Clean copies; THOMSON, J. The Seasons ... Embellished by engravings on wood by Bewick. London, T. Bensley for J. Wallis, 1805. Modern red morocco. Worn.
An attractive group of Bewick, including the excessively rare and graphically compelling Christopher and Jennett Picture Book, which, based on the evidence of the description in a 1951 Sotheran's invoice, may possibly be that copy described by Hugo in the supplement to The Bewick Collector. Rare Book Hub locates no copies of this ever at auction. FirstSearch locates only the Newberry copy, noting "With several hundred items in woodcuts, many of which [are] by Bewick. Apparently, this book has been made up by the printers, Christopher & Jennett, as a specimen book of printers' ornaments from the existing blocks of Bewick's and other woodcuts."
