The shaped part lobed body applied with a medallion of cycling race, the reverse with enamel coat of arms and engraved The Kingsbury Cup, with leaf-capped loop handles applied with rosettes, the cover with a female figural finial, the knopped stem with female busts, the base applied with a shield engraved C.B. Kingsbury, Olympic Champion 1908, Presented in 1949 to Portsmouth & District Track League. Height overall 36 inches (92 cm), weighted.
Clarence Brickwood Kingsbury (1882–1949) was a native of Portsmouth and one of Britain’s most decorated cyclists of the early 20th century. At the 1908 London Olympics, he captured two gold medals—one in the 20-kilometre race, and another in the team pursuit—cementing his place in sporting history. Known for his versatility and endurance, Kingsbury dominated national cycling events from 1907 to 1912, winning titles across distances from a quarter-mile to 50 miles. Later in life, he became a publican, proudly displaying his trophies in his establishment.
