[War Department, Confederate States of America], Regulations for the Army of the Confederate States, 1863. Corrected and Enlarged with a Revised Index (The Only Correct Edition.) Richmond: J.W. Randolph, 1863. First edition thus. Contemporary drab cloth; 4 1/2 x 7 1/2 inches (12 x 19 cm). i-xii, 1-54, 54, 55-360, 360a-360l, 361-420 pp. Binding rubbed and rather grubby but holding nicely, except for one quire which has come loose from the textblock. Foxing and a tidemark on the upper outside corner. Crandall 1392.
[Subsistence Department], Regulations for the Subsistence Department of the Confederate States. Richmond: Ritchie & Dunnavant, 1862.Second edition. Pamphlet bound in contemporary brown cloth over stiff boards; 4 1/2 x 7 1/4 inches (12 x 18 1/2 cm). 48 pp, folding plates. Binding heavily rubbed, with cloth lifting from cardboard boards in one corner. Lacking the last two leaves. Foxing. Early ownership signature in faint ink on the flyleaf, 20th-century ownership stamp of E.A. Deiss, Lexington, K.Y.
[Confederate Bible Society]. The New Testament of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Translated Out of the Original Greek. Augusta and Atlanta: Confederate Bible Society, 1862. Contemporary vernacular cover of dark blue and white patterned cloth over paper boards; 3 1/4 x 5 inches (8 x 13 cm). 303 pp. Some stains and scuffing to cloth cover; textblock dog-eared, spotted, and stained with some pencil underlining throughout. Lacking two leaves in Acts. Pencil ownership marks on front and rear endpapers. A very charming book.
[DeFontaine, Felix Gregory]. Marginalia; or, Gleanings from an Army Note-Book. Columbia, SC: F.G. DeFontaine & Co., 1864. Original publisher's printed paper wraps; 5 3/4 x 9 inches (15 x 22 1/2 cm). pp. [1-4], i-iii, 1-248, [1-8].
Stewart, K.J., A Geography For Beginners. Richmond: J.W. Randolph, 1864. Publisher's russet cloth gilt in a later green cloth box; 4 3/4 x 7 1/4 inches (12 x 19 cm). viii, 223 pp, folding maps. Binding a bit shelfworn, backstrip faded. Lower hinge cracked but the binding is holding firm. Some very minor foxing to the pages, not affecting text or image. Overall a fine copy. Crandall 4107. Parrish and Willingham 7923.
Wiggs, A.R., Hal's Travels in Europe, Egypt, and the Holy Land; a twelve months' tour during which he saw many wonderful things and a vast deal of fun. Nashville: Printed for the author by J.B. M'Ferrin, 1861. Publisher's brick cloth gilt in a later brown cloth slipcase; 5 1/4 x 7 3/4 inches (13 x 19 cm). Cover badly stained, binding holding firm. Foxing and some internal stains. Inscription from the author to W.D. Somers on front free endpaper. Crandall 2679. Parrish and Willingham 775. Crandall says that this imprint was probably printed before Tennessee's secession.
Root, [Sidney], Primary Bible questions for young children. Atlanta: J.J. Toon and Co, Franklin Steam Printing House, 1864. Third edition, revised, enlarged, and improved. Original publisher's paper wraps. 80 pp. Upper cover detached, stained and chipped; back cover nearly detached. Heavily foxed and spotted internally.
Together with an autograph album compiled by Edward L. Campbell, Brevet Brigadier General of the 85th Pennsylvania Volunteers while stationed at Folly Island, South Carolina. Original leather boards, lacks spine. An interesting assortment of signatures dating mostly from 1863 of these northern soldiers in South Caroline during the Civil War.
