With map and half-title, modern endpapers, no blanks or ads, some spotting and offset to title from a 1891 newspaper obit of Melville; Narrative of a Four Months' Residence Among the Natives of a Valley of The Marquesas Islands; or a Peep at Polynesian Life. London: John Murray, 1846. First edition, second issue. Early stamped binding rebacked in modern leather, marbled edges. With map but no half-tile, rear blank only, no ads, light thumbsoiling but very clean; Typee: A Peep at Polynesian Life. During a Four Months' Residence in a Valley of the Marquesas. New York & London: Wiley and Putnam; John Murray, 1846. First American edition. Two volumes in one and bound with James Hall's The Wilderness and the War Path, 1846. Early three-quarters tan calf over patterned purple cloth. Retains half-title, map, and ads in volume I. Binding worn with losses and the lettering label detached, spotting within, repair to title, but generally clean; and Redburn. New York: Harper and Brothers, 1849. First American edition. Early full polished calf, marbled edges, joints worn, shelfwear, chip to label. The lot 4 volumes.
