Set on four openwork scroll feet, the pierced apron supporting a central basket, the eight arms supporting four smaller baskets and four dishes, the central basket engraved with a coat-of-arms, the smaller baskets and dishes engraved with a crest, marked on apron, arms, baskets, dishes. Height 17 inches, length 25 1/4 inches, total approximately 166 ounces.
Formerly in the Whitney residence, New York City, illustrated in “Tradition and Intimacy: The Cornelius Vanderbilt Whitneys in New York,” Architectural Digest, November 1980, p. 147.
Condition
Five arms with solder repairs. Some arms need adjusting as some dishes are slighted angled. Four dishes are pushed in from the foot rim. Break to piecing of one oval basket and another has a small dent at base
