Collection: Property from a Prominent New Jersey CollectionFrench, 1869-1954 Quelques Fleurs, 1950-51 Signed with initials HM (lr) Colored pencils and pencil on paper 5 1/4 x 8 1/8 inches (13.3 x 20.6 cm) Provenance: Christmas gift from the artist to the writer Florence Gould, Cannes, 1951 Sale, Christie's, London, Dec. 1, 1987, lot 417 Private collection, Rome Sale, Wannenes Art Auctions, Milan, Dec. 16, 2013, lot 28 Sale, Wannenes Art Auctions, Milan, Dec. 13, 2021, lot 19 Authenticity confirmed by the Archives Matisse in January 1985. It is included under no. CR 3 in their files. At the buyer’s request, the Archives Matisse will provide an “authenticity confirmation letter” that includes the archive number. The original certificate of authenticity issued by Marguerite Duthuit in 1972 has been lost.Framed 14 1/2 x 16 7/8 x 2 7/8 inchesToned; matburn; few scattered spots of foxing; tiny nick with tear at upper right corner edge; faint and shallow vertical center crease; small crease to the lower left corner.
