Executed in 1965, this is a variant of the artist’s original object Varlop of 1935 and its four replicas constructed in the 1960s. The present object does not include a billiard ball as in the original and the other examples. In 1966, an edition of 10 examples plus artist’s proofs was published by Marcel Zerbib, Paris.
Andrew Strauss and Timothy Baum of the Man Ray Expertise Committee have confirmed the authenticity of this work under reference 00592-O-2025 and that this work will be included in the Catalogue of Objects & Sculpture of Man Ray, currently in preparation.
Condition
Overall in good condition. Some surface scratches and wood loss as part of the natural aging of the material.
