Collection: The Collection of Lucille ColemanFrench, 1883-1955 Square St. Pierre à Montmartre, circa 1940 Signed and inscribed Maurice.Utrillo.V./ NOËL (lr) and inscribed Montmartre- (ll) Oil on canvas 18 1/8 x 21 5/8 inches (46 x 55 cm) Provenance: Niveau Gallery, New York Private collection, acquired from the above on December 17, 1946; thence by descent in the family Sale, Sotheby's, New York, May 6, 2004, lot 410 Exhibited: (possibly) Nihonbashi, Tokyo, Musee Takashimaya, Cinquantieme anniversaire de la mort de Maurice Utrillo, Sep. 29 - Oct. 3, 2005 (later traveled to Kanagawa, Kyoto, Osaka, Nagoya) The Association Maurice Utrillo - Suzanne Valadon has confirmed the authenticity of this work.Could use a light cleaning; minor frame rubbing; scattered craquelure; scattered spots of inpainting, mainly along the top and left edges; no further apparent restoration; canvas is tearing at the very bottom right corner, at the overlap (very small area).
