Collection: Collection of Susan Otto and Robert IsraelIsraeli/Romanian, 1893-1974 Portrait of a Suzy with Her Dog, 1928 Signed Reuven Rubin in Hebrew and Latin characters and dated 1928 (lc) Oil on canvas 34 1/2 x 26 inches (87.6 x 66 cm) Provenance: The artist Adolph Stone, Peekskill, NY, acquired directly from the artist Collection of Susan Otto Israel; thence by descent in the family to the present owner Literature: Sarah Wilkinson, Reuven Rubin, New York, 1971, p. 155, no. 131, illus. Carmela Rubin has kindly confirmed the authenticity of this work. It will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. During his time in New York in 1928, Reuven Rubin visited an old acquaintance from Romania, Adolph Stone. Stone was a patron of the arts who opened his home to various artists over the years. Rubin spent some time with Stone and his family at their home in Peekskill, where he painted several members of the family, including his granddaughter Susie. He also painted their home (Autumn Landscape, Peekskill, NY, 1928, Sale: Christie's, New York, Feb. 14, 2008. lot 73).Frame dimensions: 31 3/4 x 39 3/4 inchesLined; frame rubbing; scattered spots of inpainting, including: along the top edge; in the girl's face and neck; throughout the cat; in the sky at upper left corner; in the and around the girl's right around and around her feet.
