Possibly by Richard Roberts, circa 1720, in the manner of Daniel Marot
Each shaped top rail above a pierced vasiform splat and navy blue velvet upholstered seat and shaped apron, on husk-carved cabriole legs and hoof feet joined by shaped stretchers, originally with drop-in-seats or caned seats, possibly re-railed.
Height 46 1/2 inches (118 cm), width 21 1/2 inches (54 cm), depth 15 inches (38.5 cm), seat height 18 1/2 inches (47 cm).

Possibly acquired with Pinkie House by Sir Archibald Hope, 9th Baronet Hope of Craighall (1735-1794) in 1778
Thence by descent to Sir John Augustus Hope, 16th Baronet (1869-1924) and then to his wife, the Hon. Mary Bruce, daughter of Alexander Bruce, 6th Lord Balfour of Burleigh, at Pinkie House
