Invitation on thick card engraved by Tiffany & Co., headed with a vignette of the Bridge, the text reading "The Trustees of the New York and Brooklyn Bridge request the Honor of Mr. Amos L. Hopkins (name supplied in calligraphy) Opening Ceremonies to take place on Thursday, May the twenty fourth, at two o'clock P.M..." 6 1/4 x 9 inches (16 x 12.3 cm). Toned as usual, traces of adhesive on the rear; together with the official ticket for the New York and Brooklyn Bridge opening ceremonies on May 24, 1883. Tiffany & Co. periwinkle blue ticket features an embossed leaf design reading "NY & BB", referring to the bridge's original name. Fine condition; and Opening Ceremonies of the New York and Brooklyn Bridge, Thursday, May 24, 1883, Commencing at 2 o'clock P.M., at the Brooklyn Approach. The original program for the historic 1883 opening ceremonies of the Brooklyn Bridge, four pages, 5 1/2 x 8 inches. Light wear.
Amos Hopkins, the recipient of these materials, was an associate of Jay Gould, and later a gentleman farmer in the neighborhood of Williamstown, Mass. It is unusual to find all three components together; the invitation, the ticket and the program are all individually rare.
