Collection of a Vero Beach Lady
Circa 1910
The domed shade decorated with meandering black-eyed susan blossoms, in semi-opaque mottled amber colored glass, with mottled amber and amethyst centers, emanating from mottled green stems and leaves, against a mottled green and opalescent ground, affixed tag impressed TIFFANY STVDIOS NEW YORK, on a cushion base ending in curved feet, baseplate impressed TIFFANY STUDIOS NEW YORK 29729 and with the T.G.D.CO. logo, pierced metal heat cap.
Height 22 1/2 inches; height of shade 6 1/2 inches, diameter 16 inches.
Shade: The upper half of the shade appears to be in generally good, undamaged condition; there are hairline cracks to the lower half of the shade: the shade is slightly out of round, measuring 16 1/8 inches across from the 12 o'clock position to the 6 o'clock position, and 15 7/8 inches across from the 3 o'clock position to the 9 o'clock position; there is a side of the shade that appears to have had an impact causing the shade to be slightly pushed in (out of round) and this area has a concentration of individual glass segments with hairline fractures; there are some other scattered individual glass segments with hairline cracks elsewhere on the shade; there is a small indentation to the lower bronze rim edge where the impact damage to the shade is located
Base: the base has a uniform green patina, with areas of chocolate brown patina at the high points, notably, at the stylized motifs on the cushion base; the green and brown patina is now uniformly dulled; one of the electric light sockets is a later replacement; the lamp will need to be rewired because the current old wire is frayed and dangerous to plug in; the lamp was not tested; one of the six very small screws on the underside that secures the central base plate to the rest of the base plate is missing; the pierced metal heat cap appears to be a later replacement; it is of the style, however, it does not fit securely into place (sits in place loose); the heat cap presents well
