BARTHELME, DONALD Two first edition short story collections by Donald Barthelme, one signed. Comprising: Come Back, Dr. Caligari. Boston: Little, Brown and Company, 1964. Stated first edition. Publisher's purple cloth, in original dust jacket with dark top stain. City Life. New York: Farrar, Straus & Giroux, 1970. Signed by Barthelme on title page. Stated first printing. Publisher's red cloth, in original dust jacket with tan top stain. Come Back, Dr. Caligari jacket with some dust soiling and minor wear at extremities; City Life with minor edgewear, jacket price-clipped, lightly dust soiled, very small losses, else fine. An attractive pair of delightful Donald Barthelme collections. Barthelme was a remarkably inventive and playful writer. He worked as a reporter for the Houston Post and director of the Contemporary Arts Museum in Houston. In 1972, he was awarded the National Book Award for Children's Books. Included is Barthelme's first collection of short stories (Come Back, Dr. Caligari), which was met with critical acclaim. City Life was his third collection.No condition report?
