Theodore Roosevelt Bronze Plaque By James Earle Fraser
1920-Dated, Impressive Theodore Roosevelt High Relief Portrait Plaque by James Earle Fraser, Cast in solid Bronze, Choice Mint State.
This large handsome 13" x 10" Bronze Plaque is thick and heavy (about 7.5 pounds) with a large profile portrait of President Theodore Roosevelt in high relief, as a commemorative memorial display piece following Teddy's death in 1919. Below the portrait is an inscription reading: "Aggressive Fighting For The Right Is The Noblest Sport The World Affords." The sculptor's name and the date "Fraser - 19*20" appear in the upper right corner. The first two and last two numerals of the date are separated by a ring with a C inside (copyright symbol), making the date appear to read "19020". On the back of the plaque there is inscribed "DecArtS". There are two eyes on the back with a thick copper wire attached for hanging. We have offered and sold several similar examples of this exact same plaque over the years, bringing between about $1,600 to $2,400. The sculptor, James Earle Fraser (1876-1953), is best remembered in the numismatic world as the designer of the United States Buffalo Nickel. This is an impressive, beautiful item that is well worthy of display as intended.
