Black History "Am I Not A Man and A Brother" Anti-Slavery Medallion c. 1830, Anti-Slavery Medallion, "Am I Not A Man and A Brother" Hand-Painted Bronze White Plaster Rim Medallion, likely British, Choice Extremely Fine. This rare small historic Anti-Slavery Oval Medallion measures about 1.25" x 1.35" (30 mm x 35 mm). The medallion is made of plaster, undated, with the image side painted in light bronze. The face in natural cream colored plaster with the legend, "AM I NOT A MAN AND A BROTHER" inscription and also handwritten in pencil on the blank reverse side. The medallion is framed by a strip of heavy card wound around a number of times and painted in gold around the rims to appear as if made of gold. An old museum acquisition number is written in black ink on the exterior bottom edge. An excellent original example with sharp clear details. Very rare.
