- Lot Description
CHIPPENDALE MAHOGANY BLOCK-FRONT SECRETARY
Boston, Circa 1780
Bonnet top with broken arch pediment and three urn and spiral finials. Upper case with fluted fascia columns flanking recessed paneled doors. Carvings on the perimeter of the doors match that of the pediment. Interior fitted with drawers and adjustable shelves. Lower case with a slant lid, four graduated full-width drawers and diminutive ogee bracket feet. Boldly styled block front. Slant lid encloses a block and shell interior fitted with pigeonholes, letter drawers, a central compartment and assorted drawers. Letter drawers fronted by half-columns topped with an urn and spiral that matches the finials. Period, possibly original, brasses.
Height 96". Width 42". Depth 23".
