Property from a Collector of Russian and European Art
Description:
10 Russian Lacquer Boxes, including 4 Palekh, 4 Mstiora, and 2 Kholui boxes signed in their respective Russian spellings. The large octagonal Palekh box signed N.H. on lower right and titled "Troika" depicts a traditional Russian Troika scene of a three horse-drawn sleigh carrying a couple in winter clothing. The rectangular Palekh box signed E. Serov on lower right and titled "Troika" depicts the same scene as previously mentioned. The circular Palekh box signed Mishin N. on lower right and titled "Rider" depicts a man blowing a curved horn on horseback. The smallest Palekh box signed D. Roschin on lower right and titled "Hunch-backed horse" depicts a popular image of a figure holding the reins of two horses that flank his sides, with a smaller one at his feet. The rectangular Mstiora box signed V.B. on lower right and titled "Sadko" depicts a scene of the Russian fairy tale of Sadko, a musician and adventurer from Novgorod who became a wealthy merchant through his travels. The Mstiora box signed Smirnova on lower right and titled "Horse-Jack" depicts a scene of a galloping horse approaching a man crouching in shock. The small square Mstiora box illegibly signed and titled depicts a scene of a man and woman carrying water pails walking to town. The circular Mstiora box signed P.S. and titled "couple" depicts a couple embracing one another on a bench. The rectangular Kholui box signed Frosts A.A. and titled "Ruspen and Lumila" depicts a scene of a man carrying a woman alongside a white horse. The hexagonal Kholui box signed C.C. 92 and illegibly titled depicts a man casting a net into raging waters as a golden fish jumps from the waves.Measurements: Height: of largest: 1 3/8 in. x Width: 7 1/8 in. x Depth: 3 3/4 in.
Condition:
Good condition, minor rubbing to some paint and minor scuffs or marks from general use, the hexagonal Kholui box has minor cracking to lacquered surface.Buyer Pays Shipping Cost.
