Property from a Collector of Russian and European Art
Description:
7 Russian Lacquer Boxes, including 4 Palekh, 2 Mstiora, and 1 Kholui style signed in their respective Russian spelling. From largest to smallest, the rectangular Palekh box signed Sidorenko lower right and titled "Queen of Shemakhan" depicts a Troika motif with a Queen and King in the chariot behind three orange horses, the round Palekh box signed Lon. Ofenin and titled "Tsarevna-Frog" on verso depicts a prince with a bow in hand, leaning over a crowned frog holding his arrow, the red rectangular Palekh box signed Zaitsev on lower middle and illegibly titled depicts young man playing a horn-like instrument in nature, and the round Palekh box signed B. N. on lower right and titled "Spring" depicts a human personification of the season of spring greeting another woman with a flower crown along a river. The rectangular Mstiora box signed Hobovn on lower right and illegibly titled depicts a young man and a horse on a hill looking to a golden bird mid-flight in the sky on a red background, and the second Mstiora box signed B. M. on lower right and titled "Troika" depicts couple in a three horse-drawn sleigh on a black background. The Kholui box titled "Tsarevna Frog" pictures a castle scene of a king greeting a prince and princess that arrived on horsebackMeasurements: Height: of largest: 1 3/4 in. x Width: 3 in. x Depth: 5 1/4 in.
Condition:
Good condition, minor rubbing to some paint and minor scuffs or marks from general use, cracking of surface painting/lacquer to area around gold bird on red Mstoria box signed Hobovn.
