Property from the Murphy Family Estate Collection, Savannah, GA
Description:
Christopher Murphy Jr. (Sav, 1902-1973), 4 Nature Etchings, comprising signed lower right etching of a tree (fair condition, minor mat burn along the plate, minor hole to paper lower left edge, loss to lower right edge with tear and tear to upper edge, with visible mounting residue on verso), unsigned panoramic tree etching with a figure (minor tears to right edge, some minor creases to corners, with visible mounting residue on verso), signed lower right and pencil titled 'Oak and Farmer, Ploughing' lower left etching depicting a big oak tree with a farmer and a horse in the background (fair to poor condition, tears to right and upper edges, losses to upper and lower edges, toning and foxing to paper, bug damage to surface, with visible mounting residue on verso), and unsigned etching of rustic scene with trees, hanging swing and family (foxing to paper); all unframed.
Provenance: descended from the artist to the Christopher P.H. Murphy family collection.
Christopher Murphy Jr. was a notable 20th century Savannah, Georgia artist. Murphy's artistic education started early as both of his parents were respected Savannah artists, and continued with formal training at the Art Students League. His superior technical skills allowed him to work in a variety of mediums and subject matter and he is best known for his city and landscape scenes of his home town Savannah. He was an active member of the Savannah Art Club and taught art classes around town. During his career his work was exhibited at the National Academy of Design, Art Institute of Chicago, New York Watercolor Club, American Watercolor Society, Sesquicentennial Exposition in Philadelphia, Whitney Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum, and the Southern Art League. His work is held in the permanent collections of the Morris Museum and the Telfair as well as in various private collections.Measurements: Height: of paper of landscape with swing 11 in. x Width: 12 in.

Available payment options
PAYMENTS. Payments are expected within 7 calendar days of receiving your invoice. You will pay us the total purchase price for a lot by credit card (UP TO $5,000), cash (US currency not to exceed $10,000 in a single or multiple related payments), check, or wire transfer, before the property can be removed. Everard Auctions and Appraisals requires payment by wire transfer, check, ACH or cash (up to $10,000) for jewelry, watches and precious metals for all New and/or International buyers. You must quote your invoice number when making a payment. A Convenience Fee of approximately 3% will be applied to all US credit card payments, and non US credit cards approximately 4%. No fee will be levied if payment is made by Cash or Check. Please note a flat $15 fee for wire transfers should be included in the amount wired. For all payments made by check, we reserve the right to hold the merchandise for 7 Business days or until cleared or certified funds are provided. The purchaser will be charged $35.00 for each check returned for insufficient funds. Additionally, all payments made after 30 days will be subject to a 1.5% Late Payment Fee which will continue to accrue and compound per each additional 30 day period.
