A good group of African patinated ivory figures Probably Lega, Congo, 19th century Comprising nine figures in various standing, seated and haunched poses, each with stylised almond-shaped face with split navette-shaped eyes, some with exaggerated pointed forehead, one with conical headdress, some with markings to stomach (perhaps fertility figures), some on integral mound bases, seven with pleasing mellow amber-coloured patination, 2.25 to 10, (5.5cm to 25cm) high, (9) Provenance: Ex Private Collection, Belgium (Congo was previously a Belgian colony).
General flaws and minor cracks/losses but excellent colour and patination. Many are likely to be boar tusk ivory, not elephant ivory.
