BID ON THE-SALEROOM
A pair of French plated candlesticks, each with circular base rising to a knopped, cylindrical column and campana shape socket with removable nozzle, lobed borders throughout with foliate detail at the base of the column. Maker's mark in a rectangular punch for Charles Balaine, Paris, and a thickness number 20. Height to nozzle measuring 9 3/4 inches (24.8 cm).
Both candlesticks display general surface scratches, marks and wear commensurate with the age and use. Heavy tarnishing is visible throughout and they would benefit from a clean and polish. Wear to the plating and the copper is showing through. Minor dints and knock to one of the foot rims. On this same candlestick, there is a break in the join at the base of the column and the column can be twisted around. The maker's marks are clear and legible.
