Fontaine W. Mahoud (1837-1881) of Lynchburg, Virginia, served the entirety of the war, initially enlisting into Company G of the 24th Virginia Infantry. At the open of the Appomattox Campaign, it abandoned its heavy artillery and fought as infantry until most of the regiment was captured by Sheridan's cavalry the day before Lee's surrender. He is recorded as taking the Oath of Allegiance in Charleston, West Virginia on 12 June 1864.
