A group of Confederate frame buckles, including seven (7) fixed tongue waist belt buckles, four (4) forked tongue frames, and two (2) unusual examples with a single tongue, one fixed, the other free. Largest 3 3/4 x 2 1/2 in., smallest 1 1/2 x 2 1/2 in.
The single-tongued example on the bottom row is similar to an example illustrated in William Gavin's Accoutrement Plates North and South, 1861-1865, in which he remarks "This type is scarce, and only two specimens of it are known to the writer. (Fig. 168, pp. 198-199).
Fixed-tongue waist belt buckles, commonly known as Georgia frames, however, they were manufactured and used in all theaters of the War.
