Frederic Ruebelmann (alt. Ruebelman, Rübelmann) enlisted on 16 August 1861 as a private and was mustered into the "3rd" Company of the Ohio Cavalry, which thereafter was designated the 3rd Ohio Cavalry. They moved south to the Western Theater through Tennessee and participated in the Siege of Corinth, the Battle of Chickamauga, and the Stoneman and Wilson raids.
