Quarter plate full-length studio portrait tintype. [Louisiana], circa 1861-1865. Full thermoplastic wall case.
Full-length portrait of an armed Confederate soldier. He wears an interesting frock coat with black pointed cuffs and similar trim at his collar while holding a rifle at his side on which he attached its bayonet. He may be from Louisiana based on his brass belt buckle. While mostly obscured by the addition of gold gilt, enough detail can be seen on the extreme left to make an educated guess that the design may be the so-called "pelican feeding her young" state seal.
