5. Captain Archibald McKendry: Vignette bust portrait albumen CDV. Boston: J.W. Black, [ca. 1863]. A resolute study of one of the original vanguard officers of the legendary "California Hundred" (Company A) who survived years of hard campaigning against Mosby’s Rangers and Early's army to later achieve a post-war brevet promotion to Major.
6. Henry Sherwin: Vignette bust portrait albumen CDV. Boston: Whipple, [ca. 1863]. Features a handsome portrait of a Company A, 2nd Massachusetts Cavalry volunteer, bearing period pencil identification on the reverse alongside a collector attribution to the California Hundred.
This lot combines top-tier gallery provenance from Brady and Black with a diverse roster of West Coast and emergency volunteers, including a notable valley campaign casualty, making it a key acquisition for any collection focused on the elite cavalry commands of Union military history.

Very good to fine overall. The albumen prints exhibit excellent clarity, contrast, and bold tones. The mounts remain structurally sound, square, and unclipped, showing only minor, age-appropriate light toning and nominal handling wear.
