- Lot Description
Wooden staff with iron cloverleaf blade/finial. Polk County, Georgia: H. Stevens. Stamped "Made by H. Stevens / Po. Co. GA." 6 ft. 10 in. (83 3/4 in.) overall, 10 11/16 in. blade.
There is some debate about whether these were intended as pikes or whether they were used as flagpoles, as averred by historian Shannon Pritchard (c.f. Collecting the Confederacy, p.124-5). The distinctive cloverleaf finial or blade and the baseball bat-style butt are typical of known Stevens examples.
