- Lot Description
Wooden staff with iron cloverleaf blade/finial. Polk County, Georgia: H. Stevens. Stamped "Made by H. Stevens / Po. Co. GA." 6 ft. 10 in. (83 3/4 in.) overall, 10 11/16 in. blade.
Cheap and quick to produce, pikes were manufactured across the South as a way to crudely arm recruits when firearms were in short supply. Pikes and lances were rarely used among Federal regiments, as they were only effective in a charge and were generally cumbersome in rough and forested terrain.
This is a rare example stamped by Georgia producer Stevens.
