Sixth plate ambrotype. Half leatherette case.
A fine view of a sour-faced rebel with a cavalry sword in one hand and Sharps carbine in the other, the latter slightly out of focus. Beneath his wide carbine sling and sword belt rig, he sports a civilian jacket, undershirt and tie. His cheeks, enhanced by subtle pink tinting, are darkened considerably, perhaps indicating a sunburn sustained during his long hours in the saddle.
The consignor relates that this image was sourced from a long-undisturbed collection in Southeast Ohio, and suggests that the soldier may have been a captured Morgan's raider.
