Confederate cavalry saber. Columbus, Georgia: Louis & Elijah Haiman, n.d. Unmarked. Blade approx. 43 1/8 in. Overall 34 7/8 in. long.
A fine example from the workshop of the Prussian-born Haiman brothers, perhaps the most prolific swordsmiths in the Southern Confederate States. The sword bears an unstopped fuller and fifteen wraps of double wires over a distinctive, down-turned grip of oilcloth.
This sword overall evidences battlefield wear. The guard is nicely patinated.
