Half-length studio portrait. Sixth plate daguerreotype. Half leatherette case.
Provenance: Bill Turner Collection.
A compelling image of a Confederate infantryman brandishing an extremely large D-guard Bowie knife. Armed to the teeth, he also holds his rifle at his side with a handgun tucked into his waistbelt. The image bears a captivating candid quality, with the subject weilding his blade and looking askance of the photographer's lens.
Notably, the portrait was once in the collection of renowned collector Bill Turner, who displayed this image on his mantlepiece.
