- Lot Description
Empty half plate thermoplastic case. Massachusetts, ca. 1850s. Features the "Wedding Procession" motif (Krainik 10).
What began in 1853 as A. P. Critchlow & Co. was reorganized after David G. Littlefield purchased Critchlow’s interest in 1857, and by 1858 the firm was operating under the name Littlefield, Parsons & Co. Under this new name, the company produced hundreds of thermoplastic photograph cases, of which more than 390 examples are currently recorded. In 1866, however, the firm again changed ownership and name, and with the rise of the tintype, production of thermoplastic cases began to decline.
