• Lot Description

  Sammelband of 19th-century piano sheet music. Various publishers, circa 1836-1890.

   

  Vol. I only, folio, 13 1/2 x 10 1/2 in. Contemporary black morocco gilt. Presentation name “Harriet A. Scovill” gilt to front board. Smooth spine gilt, gilt-lettered in 2 compartments.

   

  A collection of 51 pieces of 19th-century sheet music composed for the piano forte. Handsomely bound and presented to Harriet A. Scovill, wife of Amon L Scovill, owner of the patent medicine manufacturing firm in Cincinnati, Ohio, A.L. Scovill & Co. Each is beautifully illustrated with engraved vignettes or portraits. Music sheets include waltzes, ballads, and songs with political themes, such as “The Battle of Buena Vista,” about the Mexican-American War, and “Jenny Lind’s Greeting to America,” relating to the Civil War. Many of the pieces were published in Cincinnati, Ohio.

   

  A rather interesting collection of tunes from the 1800s, beautifully bound together.
